What We Believe

We believe that this city and the 32nd ward have the responsibility, and the capability, to support the dignified needs of every Chicagoan. We believe a safer, stronger Chicago starts with investing in its people. We know that the solutions for public safety have not worked in the past, and we need to solve the root causes to make Chicago a safe and prosperous city for everyone. We believe that democratic structures should be participatory where the needs of the people are engaged with to make the best representative decisions. We know that this city is better when every individual has access to stable and affordable housing, mental and medical healthcare, nutritious food, a high quality public education, economic opportunity, and a diverse and supportive community.

Housing

We believe that every human deserves stable and affordable housing and allows them to stay in their communities. We call for more affordable, public, and social housing throughout the city, but especially the 32nd ward, with an extreme focus on new developments. We believe in lifting the ban on rent control to better protect our residents from fluctuating housing costs. We believe in the power of collective organizing and support tenant unions. We believe that we need a stable revenue source that comes from the exploitation of housing to fund these endeavors. Community demands we support:Bring Chicago HomeLift The Ban

Public Health & Safety

The outsized and harmful investments of policing and prisons has not led to safer streets. We currently spend ~$2bn in policing – the greatest per capita of any city in the US, yet we're not the safest city. We know that true public safety comes from meeting the dignified needs of our people – through access to mental health care, non-police mental health crisis response, youth employment, safer infrastructure, access to food, stable housing, and stable employment. Education

Every child deserves access to a quality, public education, in their neighborhood. That school should have a proper ratio of guidance counselors, therapists, and teachers, to enable the best education of our students. We strongly support that public schools should be operated and funded by the public, rather than privately held and operated. We support the rights of our teachers and education workers to organize within their unions to bargain for, and strike for better contracts, when necessary, that care for the needs of our community. We fight in solidarity with the overwhelming community support for #PoliceFreeSchools – with the fundamental belief that there should be no connection between schools and prisons.

Participatory Governance

Progressive governments require participatory processes – in order to represent the people, you need to involve the People throughout. That means operating participatory budgeting processes like we see progressive leaders from across the city operating with. That means a participatory zoning process, as we know that zoning decisions affect the community as we work to make it increasingly equitable and accessible to all of Chicago.
The 32nd ward office currently does not operate with a Participatory Budgeting Process, nor a community driven zoning process – we are urging the alder and his office to operate a more equitable, transparent, and participatory process.

Labor Rights

Every worker should be able to unionize for better protections in their work environment. We believe in a raised minimum wage that supports a dignified life for workers no matter their occupation.

Immigration

We believe that anyone living in this city should have access to the services and resources of this city, as well as the rights to full participation of our democratic process, no matter their documentation status.
